Cant find the right cam?

I am replacing my cams in a pair of 300 Tempest SBCs. I want to change it from solid to roller, so I was told to get the specs on the stock cam and by a roller cam close to the same specs.
The problem is that I cant find anything even close.
My stock cam has a duration of 234,246 and a lift of 497 to 504, I dont know much about cams but I cant find any cams w/specs even close to this in the Jegs catalog. Am I looking in the wrong spot or what:confused:

Tinkerer 10-15-2002 07:21 PM

Look at the crower site.
Is that advertized duration? Seems high for the lift to be at .050

THRILLSEEKER 10-15-2002 07:37 PM

Tink...Theese specs are what a rep from Crower told me over the phone todaay:confused:

Try and call Dean Gellner at 216-398-8500. He might know.

300 Tempests have solid cams???? or do you mean hydraulic flat tappet cams????

THRILLSEEKER 10-15-2002 08:01 PM

Tom, are you talking about Gellner Engineering from Parma, OH?

Are you going to be at Kelleys for Halloween?

Yes Griff that is right.

formula31 10-15-2002 08:18 PM

Yup on Dean Gellner, I pushed my engines to the max last saturday and literally melted one of my gil manifolds. If the engine checks out Ok, I may throw on one stock manifold just so I can run it but I may be done for the year. No idea what really happened but I lost water on one manifold, It may have just been the air I was getting. Woohoo. Its fun to make a cruiser fly.

So you have a hyd flat tappet cam now and you want to go to a hyd roller???Are you doing anything else or just the cam. Roller rocker arms?

THRILLSEEKER 10-16-2002 06:25 AM

Tink, it already has roller rockers, and I was told to also put a new high quality timing gear and chain, and a brass distributor gear.

KAAMA 10-16-2002 08:57 AM

If you're going with billet cams you might be happier with a cast distributor gear installed on them. It will cost a little more, but I think you'll be happier. If you go with a bronze gear they tend to wear excessively more and it will change your timing as it does. Ask your engine builder or whoever is advising you on your engines about it. You'll make a noticable difference going from a hydraulic flat tappet to a hydraulic roller though. Have fun. :)
