Valve Springs/Winter Storage
 

How many of you Guys take the valve covers off and back off the rocker arms? I have a .625 lift cam in My small block with about 450 lbs at open.

It won't hurt to do it, that is if you have the time?

I am doing mine this year. It makes sense for me since I have a solid cam, and would need to adjust everything in the spring anyway.

We just pull the motors and do rebuilds its alot faster then removing the valve covers and doing that work :D :D

Traviss your right its a sickness. Gimmee just 1 or 2 more to brag about! Really if you can its good to back off the springs, although I've heard you can crank it a little every once and a while as if your "using" it so the springs dont take a set. Greg

I'd pull the covers and back them off. Not only does it save the springs but closes off the cylinders.

And make sure you fog the cylinders well before you do. Actually, the cylinders should be fogged whether you back the rocker arms off or not. There is a fogging agent available in an airsole can that sticks to the cylinder walls and coats things better than just using tranny fluid. I can't remember the name, but usually a marine type store will carry it.
