Best power pump gas cam with good dock manners
Ok I'm tired of my solid lifter cam when at the dock or in no wake zones so I thought I would ask the experts what is a good recommendation for a cam that has decent dock manners and still provides lots of power.
My setup currently is a Merlin big block chevy with ported Merlin heads.(its said to be 540 cubic inches but i havent verified it) it's pump gas at 9.5 to 10 to 1 compression. Victor intake with AEM 950hp carb. GIL dry exhaust. full roller valvetrain and solid roller lifter Crane cam cam specs are load lift is .4167 inches resulting in a gross valve lift of .708 inches with the standard 1.7-1 rocket arm ratio. Advertised duration is 300 degrees intake, 310 degrees exhaust at .0195 inches tappit lift. The duration at .050 inches tappit lift is 262 degrees intake, 272 degrees exhaust. Lobe separation is 110 degrees engine is in a 25 foot cougar mtr tunnel hull What cam would you suggest?? |
Yikes.
That doesn't sound like a cam for use with 9.5:1 compression. |
Sounds like a good cam for et's in the mid 10 second range.

HOLLEY EFI
Mine idles great and goes in and out of gear without hardly a stumble. 598 CI, 8.6 CR Big solid roller cam. .74 lift I forget the duration. |
What is your peak rpm - hp at when fully trimmed.

i would remove that cam and go with a hyd roller setup, crane 168741 would work or call bob madera and see what he thinks.it,s ok,my shields are up.

741 cam is pretty mild for a 540.
I had that cam in a 509 and thought it needed more. |

so far 5700 rpm. but it wasn't full throttle. Conditions haven't been good enough to go faster then the 80mph range. GPS says I'm going roughly 86 mph at that time. Thinking she will top out at about 6300 to 6500 rpm but that is just a guess at this point in time. |
