Default Freshen up an OL 1.65 drive or find OM 1.5 drive? Reply

I know that this is more for the drive section, but since this site has become a ghost town lately I'd figure that I'd draw on the talent and experience in here.

I have a '97 OL Bravo1 with 1.65 gears with maybe 700 hours on it with now ~ 550hp turning it. Im currently over revving with my current props and was wondering if it's worthwhile to keep the existing drive (I hear that they have better gears) or find a newer OM drive with the common 1.5 which should put me in a sweet spot with my current collection of props.

Thoughts?

Before you swap drives, run a bigger prop. Borrow one if you have to... Keep in mind, Fountain is running 1.65 on all the single-engine OL that they make. There's a reason for that. They get better top end numbers with a bigger prop.

I'd just try a 26 Bravo prop. When the drive lets go, swap to a 1.50.

One of my 1997 OLxxxxxxxx 1.36 Bravo drives let go a few months ago and it had about the same hours.
