575 Sci block drains
In my 38 top gun have stock 575 sci. From as far as I can see there are block drains on the lower hoses off the water pump and on the bank two side of the motors. Left side if u are standing in front of them. Unless I am missing something there are no block drains on the cylinder 1 side of the blocks ?? Has anyone run into this ??

On drain per side.
|
There are 6 plugs, 1 on each header water rail, 1 on each side of the block, 1 on the reciculation pump hose and 1 on the fuel cooler underneath the front of the engine
|
Will the fuel cooler plug drain the raw water pump and the rest of the coolers, or should one remove the bottom hose on the raw pump?

02 Top Gun? So Gen 6 blocks? It is at the oil pan rail maybe one inch above it 14 in back from the front of the block face. It's behind the motor mount so it's going to be hard to reach from the front. If you feel that flat surface in front of the oil filter that the two plugs are in where the oil cooler goes on truck motors, it's about an inch and a half in front of the front of that flat surface. We are talking the non-starter side of the engine correct? The one on the oil filter side. It's a lot easier to find when it's sitting on an engine stand. Also, about an inch and a half to inch in front and an inch above that drain is a hole that I believe in knock sensor goes into. And it'll look like a drain fitting but it's not. I don't know if the Marine knock sensor is there this is what I see in a truck motor cuz I'm in the middle of putting together to put in a boat. But that's a blind hole it doesn't go into water.

Will these help. My old 2001 540 blocks

Just to clear up left side of engine is same as port side of engine and also 1,3,5 and 7. Regardlesss both left and right side of engine the drains should be to the rear 3" +/- of engine mount bottom bolt hole and just above pan rail as dnk mentioned. I've plumbed mine in the past with 6AN hose from each drain run up to the t-stat area with a quick disconnect. Makes it easy to flush out and drain blocks.

not sure on the 575 but the 525 also has a blue plug in the PS cooler
|
I would unhook both hoses at raw pump and shop vac them out. Should empty all coolers. Some don't have drains and should.

I've never seen that before???? Here is another pic I found. Derek explained where the plug is. It might be a Allen plug instead of brass hex head or petcock
|
I did a 575 yesterday. No plug on the PS cooler so I pulled the hose off the rear of it and it was holding a lot of water. If it is a factory unmolested merc 575, it will have the blue plugs in the bottom of the block
