New Boat
 

Just picked up a 2008 Advantage 29 foot X-Flight mid cabin. It is in really good overall condition. I am in Florida and picked up the boat in South Carolina. Just experienced what it is like to travel with disc brakes controlled by an electronic brake controller mounted on the front of the trailer. I was very concerned about this but now can't get over how much better the trailer stopped. No more clunking from the surge actuator.

Interesting. Who makes that set-up? The only brakes that I know of that is electrically operated by a controller is Drum brakes. I'm interested in knowing how the controller puts pressure to the brake fluid to operate the Disc's.

Interesting article. The addition of weight distribution bars could now be used which many trucks need.
I noticed the article is 4 yrs old to. I can honestly say that I have never seen one electric over hydraulic brakes on boat trailers. To bad that the package is not portable so it can be temporally installed in the tow vehicle. This would take care of the possible submergence problem.

The Dexter pump is a sealed unit and can be submerged, Im running it with disc.

We took the boat out Sunday and because it is in the very front of the trailer it did not come close to getting submerged. It does have two battery backups which would supply the brakes if the trailer separated from the tow vehicle.

Here's a quote I got from Hi-Tech marine for my trailer.
"Depending on how many sets of brakes that you intend on putting on the trailer will really determine the cost. Brake lines will be approximately $100.00, coupler $400.00 and each axle of brakes will be $350.00"
