For our stuff i do like what bup has said ..break the motor in what i do is first hr of run time change it ,and break in oil ...switch to oil i plan on using ...run abt 5 hrs on this set up,,,on third time i switch to the wix filter ,,,,this is just my way as oil and filters r perks with my job ..

break in you want to capture as much and as fine of wear metals as possible. then change your oil. I like that for any engine regardless of what it is.

and another read about Micron ratings.

Yes there are a ton of oil filter threads here but every time one springs up I learn something new!

Any thoughts on K&N for marine use? I did a search without much help. I’m running an HP4 and that nut on the bottom is mighty handy.

I have been running K&N oil filters on my boat and turboed street car with good results.

and both are very good filters that use a synthetic filter media that won't swell up with some moisture in the oil.

I use the K&N on both my Yukon and Honda Fit. The nut on the filter makes it much easier to get the filter on and off. On the Yukon it is a royal PIA to remove the filter.

I have used K&N Filters exclusively, been happy with the results. They seem to be the same quality year after year.
