Gen V Water Pump Backing Plate
I'm wanting to upgrade my water pump to a stainless model this year as the housing is starting to show scarring. When going over everything I realized that the hoses for my Gen V pump come out of the bottom of the pump not straight out the back. As such for the stainless pump to work on my boat I would need 2 90's screwed into the housing, I'm no engineer but I'm pretty sure you can't screw in two 90's next too each other, also I don't have the slack or clearance to run the hoses that way. I asked Rick at CP and he said the only solution he knew of was to TIG weld in 2 90's to the back of the pump housing. I'm thinking this problem has to have come up before and been solved before. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Can they be offset so they come out at different angles instead of straight down?

Differing nipple lengths will get you there as well with threaded 90s and barbs . You will need more fittings but no welding, if thats an issue.

or just use a 3" piece of 1" NPT pipe threaded on both ends as an extension and get a female 90 with nipple |
Why not put straight nipples in the pump and use 90 or 45 degree hose ends?

That's a odd gen V. Mine comes out the back like the SS one you posted.

I have the same impeller housing on a '96 454 LX MPI. As with the OE both fitting should be straight; however, being they are longer the bottom was hitting the OE engine mount. So for The top fitting I have a straight from the transom raw water hose and the bottom is a 90* to the engine hose. Remember with the 90* you will now trap your hardware below the fitting and can't use the allen included either. I got a hex head, inserted it in the impeller housing hole first then the 90*. Said bolt loosens enough to disengage the bracket yet is retained by the 90* as there's not enough room to pull it all the way out.
