Looking for a Blackhawk Drive
I'm looking to buy Blackhawk drive..anyone got a line on a source?
|
I asked the same question about a year ago. Bam marine answered with drives and props. The props are really rare now. They are advertisers on this site. Look them up.

Props are the next item on my list...I understand there might be some avaliable from others on the board. If anyone has them, please let me know.

Ken,
Just looked through my old email and Dollar had the drives. Several other people emailed me with drives and or props. Shoot me an email and I will foward them to you. Ron |
Ken,
Merc just released the last of the drives that they had. Any dealer can get them for you. They are about $8500.00, but come with the new upgraded gear XR gear set etc. Mark at BAM had 2 the bought off of E-bay, he was/is selling those for $6500 each, they have the upgrades to them as well. I don't know if Mindi Doller still has the rebuilt BlackHawk. She was originally asking $3500 or so. The hard part is the props are getting very scarce. Merc hasn't restarted production of the props, so they are getting pretty hard to find, for a reasonable price. Woodsy:D |

Rj-could you please forward that list to me? [email protected]
Performance marine in Oshkosh will also be able to set you up with a Blackhawk. As others have mentioned though...be sure to bring your checkbook. Ric-because when the drive is on the correct hull it is 10mph faster than any bravo. The key word is the correct hull. |

If this image is large enough to read, it'll answer you questions...

Ok, for some reason, I can no longer post a large image. I'll paraphrase:
1. The blackhawk drive is designed for "Single engine high performance sport boats" that are 20-25 feet in length and run in excess of 65 mph. 2. It is designed for boats that have natural bow lift. 3. The blackhawk drive is designed to operate with the propeller shafts parallel to the water surface....To achieve this, "Delta pads", "Notches", or "Steps" are often used. 4. Should not be used on boats that have a "Hook" in the back of the boat hull or that have "Lifting strakes" that run to the back of the boat. There are also a couple of pics that help to illustrate the above points. |
HMMMM. I WONDER HOW I WOULD WORK ON MY 29' FOUNTAIN. MIGHT BE SCARY. SCARY IS GOOD, RIGHT?

BlackHawks are a great drive. The down side was how they were used by some mfg's. Donzi, as much as I love them, really hurt the BlackHawk program. They did not mount them high enough on the 22 Classic, and they added way too much rocker to the bottom of the hull. This resulted in an ill handling, porpoise prone boat. At any other speed other than WOT, you had to drag some serious tab to keep from porpoising. Other mfg'g mounted them too high, and they had no bite. Scarab did a pretty good job with the P-29 & the BlackHawk drives. The internals are all Bravo, so, with the exception of the gearcase, everything internal is replaceable/upgradeable. I think IMCO used to even make a short version of thier torsional vertical shaft for the 'Hawk.
You need to use the BlackHawk on a relatively small lightweight hull. A little rocker in the back would help out too. I currently have a 97 Donzi 22 Classic 454MAG 385hp (Stock hull, no rocker) that I just hung a BlackHawk on, with no increase in X-dim. I got a 4 mph increase. I went from 68-69 to 72-73. Over the winter I plan to raise the engine 3" and use an IMCO extension box. I'll post the perf data as soon as I have it in the spring. Woodsy:D :D |
