What pistons do you have or want?

Hi with all the talk of boring and stroking I thought I would post a poll to find out what pistons poeple have used and would use when building a big HP marine motor. Charlie

J&E very good! Have ran ROSS with no trouble also. Both were right on specs and quality A+.

Have used JE with good success in some offshore race boats and other performance application, Wesco are also god but harder to get special sizes

J&E in a 689 HP small block twin turbo.
J&E in a 620 HP 502 Procharer
Great customer service as well:p

Have forged Speed Pro in the boat motors, JE in the SBC for the Corvette. Also think SRP make good parts, just don't need another set of pistons at the momemt (and hope I don'e need any anytime soon)

I have and run JE's but would not hesitate to run Ross's.

Aren't SRP's made by the same company as JE's?

Mrgoodwrench 10-22-2002 04:42 PM

Hey Winston Cup cars run upwards of 10,000 rpm with JE's. I thinks they can handle 5500 in my boat:D

JE makes a good piston but there factory service dept SUCKS!!!!

I bought a set thru a shop factory direct. When I got them I opened the box ...took 1 out saw they were wrong wrapped it back up and sent them back to JE for the correct ones. 2 weeks go by and no reply...3 weeks no reply..I call..they say they need to be inspected for credit. another week no reply I call again and talk to some dip**** who tells me I will be charged $250 for some of the pistons that had nicks on them. I told him I never even touched them...NO MATTER. I told him kiss my ass and send me my refund minus the 250. I bought a nother set from Jegs.
Another company called CP pistons has started up by former JE employees. They will be getting my next order this spring. They will make me a custom set to my specs for the same price as off the shelf.
I hope them *******s at JE read this. You lost a customer dudes

I'ved used Ross...great pistons and never had a problem

Im not exactly sure but I think I have speed pro hypereutectic pistons in my engines. (voted for the KB Hypers on list)
Granted they have run for about 2-2.5 hrs total since birth but seem to be okay (seirously how do you really tell your pistons are good or bad until something breaks or blows up anyway?)

Now im sure some of you seirous gear heads might take your pistons out every year and give them a sensual rub down or something but for moderate engines I dont see a problem with the hypereutectic pistons at all.

just a blurp from a small time boat owner.

I have ran SRP's in my 383 all this year. Had one piston problem, but we think it just broke , some say detonation, it broke the crown, but who the hell knows .... but had no other problems with the 7 others :p checkin them out when the motor gets pulled .. probably run them again next year if all is good.. quality was very impressive and they sure were pretty :D

forgot.. in dad's 502 we run JE's and in the last few motors in that boat LOL. No problem. Building a motor for my uncles boat and he has got JE's too..

I run JE's in my 632. The only problem is they take about 4 weeks to turn a set with the raised pins and "short skirts". You would think they would have extras made up, as this is getting to be a very popular combo.
