GM 188 head question

All the numbers on both heads are the same.
But why would this area look so different?
Something to be concerned about?
Plan to drop them off at shop today, just thought I'd ask here..

The valve seat with the pen pointing to it looks like it is sunk in considerably compared to the other. That head also looks like it has been resurfaced so who knows what somebody did to the seats. Your machine shop should be able to tell you for sure. You could stick a valve in each one and measure how far out of the top it protrudes. I bet that one is going to be a lot higher.

The area I'm pointing to is actually raised.
Seats aren't sunken in.
You can see where the bigger radius comes around towards the spark plug hole. GM just didn't cut deep enough when cutting the pocket on that head. It probably got caught later down the line and they just went at it with a die grinder. Heads are at the shop are will be taken care of.

Production stuff, doesnt always match, im porting 4 088 rect port heads for a ywin engine build, one head has 5 to 7% bigger ports untouched

Most production heads look that way. Drop a couple old valves or but a couple cheap new ones, drop them in both sides and blend that in to chamber with decent sized carbide burr or very course air grinder wheel. The bowl blend the all those sharpp corners under the seats. You Wil gain quite a bit of flow.
