Counter Rotate Whipple?
Does anyone know if you can set up a Whipple to work on a counter rotating engine? I'm thinking about running Arneson ASD-8 drives, but I would need to counter rotate an engine to get it to work.

Or is it possible to buy a counter rotating transmission that will handle 1100 hp?

I know I've seen boats with arnesons and whipples...I bet you can change the gear drive in the snout like a regular roots blower and the snout will spin backwards but the blower still spins normal...I don't really know for sure but there has to be a way

That's what I'm thinking. It seems that the easiest way is a counter transmission, but I've never seen them for a performance application. I know very little about arnesons, this is all new to me. I'm either switching to #6's to Arnesons, and I would prefer ASD 8's if I can figure out how to rig them with my hull.

Being I don't know a huge amount about 6's...do they do the counter rotate in the drive like a bravo kinda?? or do they counter rotate a trans??
Why are you wanting arnesons instead of 6's just out of curiousity?? |
http://www.arneson-industries.com/page.php?type=products&id=driveIdentification
if you read through the different models there are several that are available in RH or LH rotation removing the need for a counter rotating engine...not sure if this helps?? |
I was ready to pull the trigger on a set of 6's, but they are still prone to failure and frequent rebuilding. For the same money or LESS, I can got with Arnesons, which are far more durable and efficient. As to counter-rotating the engine, yeah, as I've dug into this, no need to do that. I'm still not saying no to 6's, but seeing that I have a fresh uncut transom, I think Arnesons are the better choice.

I gotcha...was just curious...I thought 6's were the cat's a$$ nowadays..well besides like m8's or whatever the "new" stuff is lol
