Was not my intention. I dont have the money to buy another boat but I'm a pretty good mechanic and I believe I can fix this boat. I need help fixing it. The only thing I was getting is "get rid of it". I believe I can fix this one fairly cheap as opposed to getting another boat. Wasn't trying to upset anyone.

NAPA can get you all the right stuff also. Just make sure to tell them it is for a marine app.

Everyone is telling me the same things. "GET RID OF IT" maybe I should but this is a project and I'm ok with the breakdown on the lake trying to figure it out. Been there done that most of my life. I want to play around with BB boat and have some fun. I dont have money for a nice boat but I do for the occasional fix so this is where I got to be for now. She may be a big piece of chit but hey it's still gonna be fun watching much more expensive boats get their arse whooped with the POS. Just something to fool around in. 600 hours and a little elbow grease..... I'm in!!!!!

Anyone have any clue what can cause water to leak from the exhaust valve? I would normally think a cracked head but is it? I checked under the valve cover and nothing substantial leaking there. My assumption is its internal to the head?

Cracked head or rotted out valve guide

Please explain how a rotted out valve guide could be the cause? if the valve guide was rotted would it just leak from under the valve cover somewhere? i have determined its not coming from under the valve cover and Im hoping someone knows if there is a water jacket or something close by? Can a rotted valve guide cause water to leak in from a water port somewhere without making it up to the top of the head?

FYI: engines (block, heads/etc) have internal coolant passages to cool the motors. Since exhaust is so hot, many engines (including the BBC) have coolant passages right at the exhaust guides/seats.etc......

I disagree for using NAPA for Felpro gaskets as NAPA charges a lot of money for most of them. your typical performance company like (but not limited too)summit racing is typically better.

And yes, as mentioned, most 'Marine' gaskets from Felpro are the same as some auto one's but reboxed and priced higher :(. Do some searching around for the cheaper but same part. :)

Ok i knew there was water jackets close to the exhaust valve i just didnt know if there was a weep hole or something where the valve guide sits. I wouldn't think so because a leaking valve guide would cause water intrusion but this is my first BBC.

So no wIm thinking since the engine has had water maybe it time to refreshen it up. Do you guy know if these would be any good?

I just read somewhere that the valve guides on a 454 up to 98 were water cooled??? Could this mean there is only a valve guide that needs replaced and not the whole head?
