Question 1988 formula 242 ss

I just bought a 1988 formula 242 ss. I took it out for the first time this weekend and notice one of the temp gauges getting hot. there are 2 temp gauges. one towards the middle of the cluster I assume is engine coolant temp and one to the right of the cluster.

Does anyone know what it for? non of the gauges are labeled. If I just idle around it stays low. get up onto a plane at about 3000 rpm/38-40 mph it slowly rises till it would peg out. over 250??

thanks.

Second may well be oil temp. Check where on the engine the sending units are.

Yeah. I traced it back. That is what it is. Thank fornthe reply. Do you know what would cause it to get so hot so easy? If inget up on a plane doing about 40mph at 3000 rpm it will peg out ofter about 15 minutes or so
