I would build the engines internally to be able to handle 700+hp. Then I would use your 174's and see what they do. I wouldn't do chillers as I think you'd be better off go to just go with bigger blowers if you want more power. You will probably need more carb. I would send yours out and have them made to 950-1000cfms. If the 174's don't make enough hp for you, then upgrade to big blowers later. |
This is how my 454 build dyno'd
668 ft/lbs at 3600 616 hp at 5500 incredibly flat torque curve 640ft/lbs at 2700 ran on 100 octane 454 -60 over, 188 heads, Howards roller cam, 8.5 static comp 177 blower with 3" pulley on top and 7" on the bottom Teague chillers too Single Holley Sniper Dyno headers with magnaflow mufflers |

Less than 500HP, how do you figure that with 5lbs of boost. That boat has always ran 88 mph with the Hawk 540's.

I forget what were in the boat. I thought the they were Hawk 540's, but could as easily be 525's. I believe they came out of the Hawk Cigarette. Are the Dart Iron Eagle heads still on the engines?

It has Merlin heads
Now back to your original question. I believe you could achieve your original goals with roller cam, larger blower (no chiller) and same heads. |
