Looking for merc raw water pump with side inlet/exit not backside in/out?
Anyone aware of some like that? Need a compact dimension from serpentine pulley to back of pump body the std slip on inlet/outlet is a no go. Need something like one section of this two stage pump setup
https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...8c4af23930.jpg And the setback pulley on this https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...4234561c3b.jpg And I might be able to shorten a little bit out of the assembly below to buy some more room, looks like 1/4" from end of pulley shaft is extra. Pump body & shaft |
If you call Hardin they should be able to set you up with a single stage of the pump pictured above. I have that pump and I’m turning it into a single stage and I just talked to them about it.

Hardin should be stainless

could you run two 90 degree fittings on the hardin pump? thats what i did. btw, for all the complaining on a thread about the hardin ss. pump, mine work great and look even better.
|
i used the teague generation 4 billet bracket that clamps around the pump housing, you can adjust the pulley depth wherever you want it.

the problem i had with the stock brackets is that they flexed at high rpm and the serpentine belt jumped off the pulley.
the clamp pressure isnt that tight, i only tightened them with a 5 inch allen wrench. could that possibly distort the housing? |

I couldn’t get the Hardin pump to prime when I put the impeller in with dish soap but pulled the impeller out and slathered it with marine grease (on the ends seemed to be imperative) and pumps like a champ now. I think that shiny stainless can be a bit too slick like glazed cylinders. |

I did the same. The stock pump bottom nipple was right in front of the engine mount and the top one interfered with the distribution tubes. A 90 on the lower and 45 for the fresh water and all is happy. it pinch bolts the round snout only. So if one does not put another bracket to keep the housing itself from rotating -- how could the housing not rotate if the pinch bolt is not tighten enough or comes loose.
Its a pinch bolt only mount to the snout of the shaft housing. In that area you have a shaft - seals - and bearings. SO IMO the shaft snout is not as strong as the front body of the complete housing and its using 4 or 5 bolts to mount instead of a pinch bolt around a round shaft body. Look at pic 2 from the first OP post above. Thats a bracket I would use for the GEN IV pump if one could mount that to the housing. Teague bracket is super nice and heavy as hell do not get me wrong about that. BUT IMO I do not like pinch bolt mounts -- Pic s below of what I am talking about |

back side -- snout mount only with a pinch bolt. |

Do you have Gen 1 or 2, when you look in from fitting do you see edge of impeller vains (gen 1) or are they blocked off by a plate so you don’t see them? https://www.hardin-marine.com/p-1454...rhaul-kit.aspx Here you can see the bottom one headed straight for the engine mount so I put a 90 on it. The oem hose was a molded 90. I hadn’t swapped out the upper straight one for the 45 yet. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1d3e9a680.jpeg |
if one has the backside room for a 90 degree fitting -- they sell them to.

That pinch bolt arrangement is interesting, but would move the pump body even more rearward to get belt alignment right
|
the flat bracket or the teague bracket still hold the pump is roughly the same spot. the pulley in your first post along with the teague bracket would let the pump be as far forward as possible. or make a flat bracket that kicks out to the side and get a longer belt?
