Sea Strainers

I bought my boat and it does not have sea strainers installed and it has thru hull raw water pick ups... How many people run without sea strainers? I was thinking on investing and not sure exactly which sea strainers to purchase. My motors are 454's... Any input is welcome.

I run the hardin marine Strainers. In my opinion they are invaluable for catching things before the get in your sea pump
