2.3 L whipple on 496
I am rebuilding a 496 and want to know if a wipple 2.3 l blower will be suitable.
I am using a stroked crank, high lift cam and forged pitons & rods from Raylar. I have have this blower brand new still in the box, been sitting around for years |
they will work,,what heads are you gonna use?cast iron heads need alot of port work to decent power.
|
You might reconsider also if you already have your parts unless you can return some. Also blower cams tend to have a different lobe profile with lower lift and little longer duration with 114 lsa as well as timing events need be blower efficient. What static compression are you currently at? Pistons should also be for blower use. You might wanna call raylor and let him know what your thinking of if the parts you purchased come from there. Just some specific things to consider but certainly not all. With right combo it's pretty easy to get 575/600 hp out of a NA 496. What dive you have? |
I have Raylar aluminium heads |
I let larry know what I am doing the cam I got is meant to be suitable for the blower. I am not a mechanic so I hope the pistons and the rest of the gear is going to work. As for the drive its a bravo 1 ,wellI dont think it will last to long. I am thinking Imco drive but this will have to wait ,our aussie dollar is pretty sh,,,t at the moment |
Compression is around 10:1 |
Do you think the 2.3l wipple will work, what boost? |
If you replace the pistons it will work just fine. Listen to Larry, he knows what he is talking about. Compression was 9:1 stock. The heads suck but if you do new springs and rockers it will work. With the bigger cam, stock heads and new pistons you should be close to 650 horsepower depending on boost and with the small cam about 600 horsepower. I am guessing Larry will recommend 4 or 5 PSI to start. Just make sure the A/F is right per Larrys specs.
If you talk to him he will give you some kind of kit and recommendations. |
