TRS/Merctrans tail shaft rubber mount
 

My rubber mount on the tail shaft of one of the merctrans transmissions was a little messed up. It went in, but I'm wondering if the part is available and just how critical it is to be in good condition. It basically acts as the rear mount and being jambed in the transom assembly, I'm wondering if just going in is enough to hold it all together. It is basically just a little deformed, not ripped or anything.

You know you tighten the 6 nuts on the retainer back there after it is in place from outside through the gimbal housing. That expands that donut to hold it all tight. Put a little grease on it too!

It does need to be held tight so the yoke shaft on the drive and trans output shaft isn't moving around. It will wear out the bearing in the rear of the trans.

FYI be sure the washer is on the output shaft before you put the drive on or the spring on the drive yoke shaft will wipe out the seal in the rear of the trans.
