Propshaft height and rotation on 30 cat???
Starting to set boat up, need some opinions on height of propshaft off of boats bottom and if the props should turn in or out. Also wondering what the best amount of setback for the motors would be. Heres what I'm workin with:
30ft Cobra Terminator Cat Kevlar hull has 3 steps and no pod Weighs 2544 lbs. rigged Motors are twin Mercury 2.5 outboards, 245hp carbed versions CLE gearcases Spinning 14x28 labbed cleavers Power Lift manual jack plates with 5 1/2" setback I don't have much info on how the boat drives and handles YET! only drove it 2 or 3 times before I blew up my gearcase, boat was also completely set up WRONG! Would like to know what kind of top speed you think I might get out of this thing when its set up right. Was getting mid 80's on GPS, I think theres a lot more speed left in a proper set up. Thanx Johnny:confused: |
the best starting point for the drives is locate the center of the propshaft about 1-1/2 above the botton of the sponson. located the jack plates so this motor location is mid adjustment of the jack plates, I would also run the rotation outward , once you start testing watch your water temp gage. if temp is okay and no prop slip jack motors up 1/4" per time after max ht determine come back down 1/4" ( make sure you props are not located in the tunnel area)
