496 exhaust
I am rebuilding a 496 ,looking at a few options for the exhaust. I am using a stroked crank, high lift cam and forged pitons & rods from Raylar amd Whipple blower. I am thinking Dana ,Stainless marine or EMI all with dry pipes. what do you think? |
Probably the most $$, but you can consider CMI too. That said, I replaced CMI's on a 525efi w/ Stainless Marine and was please with the results, and the cost.

I wanted to use a manifold for reliabilty over a header which seems to be less reliable and more expensive IMO Don't waste your $$ on EMI, SM for this application. They are both short individual runner manifolds that dump into a large common riser. Exactly the same as your 496 exhaust. The only exhaust that have proven gains over stock are CMI, Lightning, Dana Marine. |
Stainless Marine gen 3 seem to be doing well against headers.............and come with a leak free warranty for 5 years :)

Has anyone used the Thunder and lighting manifolds on a 496 |

Thanks Ryan, i can add the sensors to the thunder & lightings not sure weather to go with these or the lightnings as I want to get the max amount of height the danas are another option but even with the 3 inch riser they are still 3/4 inch lower than the lightings |
What kind of HP gains do you get for this single runner expensive exhaust compared to Merc 496 exhaust?
