Transom light mounting
I'm about to mount some underwater transom lights on my boat. As of now, I'm using a pair of Seablaze X lights. I really don't want to have three lights, so based on two, should I mount them between the drives or outside of the drives. If I absolutely should have three I can go that route, but if two will work, I would prefer to do that.
Here is a picture of the transom. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...1e47fb2ac8.jpg |
2 in the center between the drives works. Here you can sort of see where mine are. Personally I would go with 4 if $$$$ didn't matter. 2 in the center and then 1 on each side of the drive. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...69629269db.jpg

I do not have your brand but installed 3 on ours. 3 Would be my suggestion for a nice spread light pattern, if budget allows. If 2 were max, mount on the outside of drives. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...88ead736b5.jpg

Another light is only $300 so I may be adding a third light, I want to have the entire transom area lighted, and it doesn't look like two is going to do it.

I also have the seablaze ... 3 would probably be brighter but its` pretty decent with 2 ...

If that’s what two lights are capable of, I’ll be fine with two! I guess if I need more, I can always add some to the outside of the drives. Thanks for the pictures.

If you`re going to boat on LM then you`ll be happy I think . In ROTO with the water its way less.
btw those pics may have been enhanced a bit .. i`ll be honest it`s close but maybe not as bright as those pics. That was a high end camera |
I figured those pictures were not taken with an iPhone, lol. I keep my boat in Northern Lake Michigan and the water up there is like a glass of drinking water, crystal clear. If those pics were taken in one of the Chicago harbors, I'll be fine with two.

Transom lights are mounted. I was told to go as low as possible, so when on plane it will light up the wake better. I don't think I could have gone any lower. I'm pretty sure I'm going to add two more lights on the outside of the drives. I'm make up my mind on that, as soon as I get it in the water.

Mounted deep, they wont be as bright at the dock(where you will have them on 95% of the time) https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a7c4c99b2f.jpg
Mine were probably a foot higher. |
I opted to go the maxim depth Lumitec recommended, which is 16" below the waterline. I probably could have gone a little higher, but I wanted it below the gimbal, so the light would disperse better. Again, the water I boat in is crystal clear. There is no issue seeing the bottom in 15 feet of water. Lake Michigan it's even deeper and clearer. If I need to, I'll just ad another set of lights.
What brand of lights did you use? |
Really like all these lights. Promised myself that I was done adding any rigging or toys to my boat. After 32 yrs polishing on the same boat....think I done....unless something breaks. Ben |

I had 3 of the Dagon 5000. That pic is in the cloudy Grand River. Out in lake Michigan they were really bright. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...e2a66547e.jpeg
