Which oil cooler should I use for 450hp 468?

My engine build is finished and I’m wondering if the stock oil cooler from the 330hp 454 is sufficient to cool the new engines oil. The new engine is a 468 with 9.6:1 cr aftermarket iron heads and a crane 781 camshaft. Valvetrain is full roller. Exhaust is aluminum Gil with thru hull. I’ll be using a stock 385hp magnum oil pan (not sure of capacity yet) and the boat will do extended run times at 3500-4000 rpm. Some run times may exceed two hours. Sea water temps from 60-75 degrees. Any advice?
Did I offer enough information?

It will most likely be fine. The 330 oil coolers were used for the 420's as well as 454/502 mags.

The biggest one you can afford. I run a 210 oil thermostat and 3x18 oil cooler. Oil temp never gets above 240 or beliw 210. Consistent temps save motors. Too small and wot runs could cook the oil into shear.

I went with this for 585hp

Hi-Performance Combination Power Steering & Engine Oil Cooler, 3" Diameter, 23" Overall Length, 3/4" NPT Oil Connections, 3/8" NPT Power Steering Connections, 1" NPT Water ConnectionHave you made some performance modifications and you're now making mega horsepower only to find out your stock Mercury cooler can't keep up? Well not only is this our most popular combination cooler, it is also the answer to getting those oil temperatures back down where they belong. This cooler features seventy-six 1/4" seamless cooling tubes and can handle form 450 to 750 horsepower applications with ease. With a 23" overall length, 3/4" NPT oil connections, 3/8" NPT P/S connections, and 1" water connections, this is the perfect solution.

Some of the 330hp oil coolers where small post the size you have. I would use 2"x18" min.

hp 500 cooler would be perfect and a good used one should be easy to find.

Bingo I agree. And if you are buying used watch out - if the engine internals chucked and or a leak can take place with used coolers that are sold where ever. At the very least I would pressure all used coolers and asked if that cooler came off a broken internal engine. If it did I would pass on it

This should fit your needs, - H/P Oil Cooler :: Oil Coolers :: Engine Oil Coolers / Oil Systems :: Diamond Performance Parts

Thanks for the replies guys. I still need to install the motor. Actually the boat is still shrink wrapped with the old 330 in there. Lol. Hopefully I can get this swap started early March and I’ll see what I have. I happen to have a big diesel marine cooler too. No idea what hose sizes are but it’s about 18” long and 3” think.
Maybe that’s a good option. That’s in the warehouse so I’ll take a look. I just now remembered I had that while responding. I’ll post the info on it here. I’m sure there is some reason it won’t work out but....

I'm sure your planning on it but just make sure you run an oil stat.
