Which oil cooler should I use for 450hp 468?
My engine build is finished and I’m wondering if the stock oil cooler from the 330hp 454 is sufficient to cool the new engines oil. The new engine is a 468 with 9.6:1 cr aftermarket iron heads and a crane 781 camshaft. Valvetrain is full roller. Exhaust is aluminum Gil with thru hull. I’ll be using a stock 385hp magnum oil pan (not sure of capacity yet) and the boat will do extended run times at 3500-4000 rpm. Some run times may exceed two hours. Sea water temps from 60-75 degrees. Any advice?

Bingo I agree. And if you are buying used watch out - if the engine internals chucked and or a leak can take place with used coolers that are sold where ever. At the very least I would pressure all used coolers and asked if that cooler came off a broken internal engine. If it did I would pass on it

Thanks for the replies guys. I still need to install the motor. Actually the boat is still shrink wrapped with the old 330 in there. Lol. Hopefully I can get this swap started early March and I’ll see what I have. I happen to have a big diesel marine cooler too. No idea what hose sizes are but it’s about 18” long and 3” think.
Maybe that’s a good option. That’s in the warehouse so I’ll take a look. I just now remembered I had that while responding. I’ll post the info on it here. I’m sure there is some reason it won’t work out but....
