Confused on why I would degree a cam with a non adjustable setup
https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...0cd3d5bed.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...74ee0dbac.jpeg I am reusing my cams after a rebuild and supercharger upgrade. My timing setup is non adjustable. Why would I want to degree the cams if I can’t make an adjustment anyway...?? |
Oval out the holes and use an offset bushing on the pin.

The whole idea is to have the cam set up exactly as the cam manufacturer planned.
without doing this you may not get everything you paid for. don't forget to check your V/P clearance. ( valve to piston ) don't just use a dial indicator - USE CLAY The clay will show you the side clearance between the outer edge of the valve and the eyebrow on the piston. ( valve cut out of the piston ) |
Another reason to check cam timing is to make sure key ways and pins and dowl pin holes are put in the rite spot. I had one camshaft that was 9 degrees out. |

I guess what I am asking is without buying new parts or altering my current parts what would be the point in degreeing the cam if I cannot adjust anything. I don’t think there is a point as I couldnt make any changes. |
How many hours are on that gear set and chain ?? looks to be some slop on the left side

I don’t think there is a point as I couldn't make any changes. As far as the chain being loose it has been my experience that the big single roller chains are all that way. The first 502 I did years ago was loose so I ordered a brand you set from GM. It was exactly the same. I have tried different brands and they all seem to be the same. I will say that they don't really seem to stretch any more after initial run in. |
It only needs to be off by a few degrees for a noticeable difference so you can verify it as correct so when you stick it in the boat and it’s running like a pig you’re not chasing a ghost of a problem. |
