What is the utility of the water passage that is connect on the top of the circulation pump and which is connected to the intake.

It’s to circulate water in the engine block, heads, and intake before the thermostat opens. It helps keep the temperature in the engine even during warm-up.

The direction of flow is from the intake into the circulation pump
