Default The plot thickens

Hi guys ,
sorry on the reply, I've been calling around trying to get answers. Well let's just say I'm trying to set up an appointment to get my stock cams and rockers installed back in motor. Many of you asked who did the tune. Well that's a good question. I dont think the shop sent my ECU out to get tuned, and even if they tuned it right after the fact. I might get enough power back to run my stock speed of 77-78mph. (What a joke) so I might have been running my motor at top RPM at a lean condition. I've seen some replies on this thread of just going up to a bigger better motor, well I had the opportunity to speak with Bob Teague himself about this issue and you are all right. F the 496 what a waste.

At least you didn't have to throw a shxt ton of money at it before making the choice of engine build or purchase of. A nice take out 502 or 540 with low hours would be what I'd be looking for. Another 125-150 hp would be a blast in your 26 AO.

Your right about that one, I plan on getting a high compression 540 NA motor built for next summer. I done trying to make wine out of a grapefruit...................

Just thoughts, without seeing the specs on both cams and A/F numbers it's almost impossible to tell where the problem lies. Installing a larger cam in a stock motor possibly just moved the power range into a higher RPM. The overlap of the new cam may be bleeding off the extra HP you were hoping to make. The new cam may want way more fuel at the top end and the ecm isn't tuned for it. If there is a knock sensor it could be pulling timing out because of a lean condition, to many variables. I would investigate before switching more parts.

Right on. End result is you'll be much happier and you'll have to relearn how to navigate your boat with a big azz smile on your face. A very conservative 650 hp 540 ci should put you in the mid 90's plus propped right. Now that sounds fun. I'd start advertising your 496 for sale as there is still a market for them and save some money and look forward to getting a woody. lol... If you wanna hit a 100 mph just spray it for a few seconds from time to time but I personally wouldn't go that route again as I held the button a little to long on my 24 challenger and leaned out and a piston wasn't happy to say the least. Your boat mid 90's plus would be an absolute riot. Friend of mine went from his 24 challenger to 26 American Offshore years ago.

We need data as asked above and hopefully some other places. Cam specs or Part#! Tuning - yes or no. If yes, whom ?
Without it, GIGO. Garbage in, Garbage out.

He just needs a fresh or low hour 540 or build his own. Coon tune on his ecm, pcm, with cam, intake, carb still aren't worthy in my opinion. Heads would be in order also for any worthy gains. Lot of screwing around and expense and probably still 75-100 hp short. Go for the 540/650 hp.

So blow off a possible tune issue for a year or two until the 540 is built ? Possible boom, splat of the 496/8.1L too because of this ?

I don't get the logic, but then I don't get most things. LOL.

Still waiting for cam specs or prt #'s.

He plans on putting the stock parts back in, from what I understand.
