Fair price to r&r engine on a 242?

say I pull the outdrive and all i need is to pull the original small block and install the replacement. No wiring, fuel, alignment, nothing. I just don’t have the place to pull the engine out. How many hours would this be? What would be a fair price?

Get someone with a boom wrecker to come yank it out/set it in. Probably no more than $50 and a 12 pack for a tip.

I dont know about Va Beach but most guys with those trucks around here wont even start the engine for less than $100 Never mind come out and spend an hour pulling an engine and lowering another one into place.

I went thru this many times...

talked to several guys with booms. They aren’t interested unless your renting the truck and there time for half a day which were all in the ballpark of $400.

Regarding marina fee’s that will vary. If you are talking about doing the legwork and only using there truck for a few hours...I can imagine it still being a few hundred dollars. If your going to pay someone to actually do the work it’s a few hour job on top of equipment $450-650.

I would say 2hrs each way@100per hour is going to be what most places would charge

prob 5 hour min from a shop as most will put a min on that job. Not worth it to them unless if its 500 buck min. Personally I would nt do less than 450 myself because THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING ELSE THAT ALWAYS needs addressing on top of than just a straight pull out and straight drop back in. ALWAYS

I used a zoom boom with a chain fall, was able to do it by myself. Is there a contractor nearby that could help you out, I have done lots of weekend lifting for beer money!

I'm in the 400 to 600 range , Unless its a real ***** , then time as required , 85 an hour.

I rented a small tracked excavator

If I remember, it was about 350 $ for the whole weekend. Worked great. If you rent one, just make sure it’s lifting capacity will do the job.
