525sc pulley sizes
i have found someone with a selection of pulleys but they don’t know boost from the sizes. I am adding intercoolers and want the boost to be 7-8lbs from what I understand. Is that correct or do I want more on just 93 octane? Either way what size pulley? also with bad fuel in Bahamas, what pulley would I want to at least make stock boost with the chillers in the summer? |
you really need to find the specs on what the 177 is rated to turn. There is more to life than boost numbers.
the better your engine flows the harder you need to spin it to make the same boost, The 177 is also overdriven to begin with... Your static compression ratio also comes into play. if you 9:1 to start with, you cant feed it the same boost as a 7:1 and expect it to not go boom. This might help https://documents.holley.com/199r10243rev.pdf |
Dude there were a ton of these out there. The ones I have are rather low hours. I want to crank the **** for a summer and rebuild in the fall before it goes south. Appreciate your input but it isn’t relevant. Im not trying to make a thousand per motor. Just looking for pulley sizes. |
The smallest pulley's for the Merc shaft are 2.75" and make 8# of boost. The stock pulley is 3.5" and makes 5.5# of boost. This is on the stock 454/525SC.
The blower is rated at a max of 13500 rpms. With the 2.75" and stock 7" lower you are 2.5 times overdriven so at 5200rpms your blower speed is 13000 rpms. I ran a 2.87 and made just under 8#. Change the blower lube every 25 hrs or so if you run the small pulley. |
