pan gasket MK IV

Im working on a couple MK IV Bowtie 10.2 engines, I ordered Felpro 1884R and the front and rear sealing area seems to be to thick, the pan rocks back and forth and the rails are about 1/4 inch from the block, are these the correct gaskets ?? they look to be stock mercury pans that someone but a wider bottom on them for oil capacity.

I just fought with some felpro one piece gaskets and the cast aluminum MerCruiser pans. The thick pan gaskets were too thick I was breaking bolts trying to smash it down, and the thin ones were just a little too thin. I ended up using the thin ones with a good layer of ultra black, tightened the bolts up 50%, let it set up, then tightened the rust of the way. No leaks yet.

All you guys running MK4 blocks and no answers ??

The gasket sets I used in the past came with 2 sets of the rubber end seals, thick and thin. I don't remember the part number but they were Fel Pro.

there has to be a 1 piece made for these blocks ? Fel Pro OS30061T ??

i no longer use the one piece gasket for mark 4 engines,i have had several leak and that sucks.when you install the rubbers on the 4 piece gasket make sure to get the rear one pushed all the way down into the rear main cap and always put some sealer in the groove first.i always apply a smear kote of the right stuff on both above and below the gasket.hope this helps.edit in,speedy, don,t use the standard pan gasket on those 572s,fel pro makes a nice one fitted for a stroker pan.

Do you have a part # or are you saying go back to the 4 piece ? Ive ordered one that looks to be notched on the inside in between the bolt holes to match the block, is that what you mean

mike tkach 04-15-2019 09:12 AM

yes use the 4 piece.i will post the part number a little later today.

fel pro 1893 is the gasket that is correct for engines with stroker pan.it is a 4 piece gasket.

I gave up on the one piece gaskets as well. They suck.

I never use the end pieces. I lay a bead of right stuff across both ends.

Use the 4 piece 1893 and throw away the end pieces. Use Ultra Black , for the ends . Just like an Intake Manifold , those end pieces will leak .

F-2 Speedy 04-23-2019 03:38 PM

I used the 4 piece, on a pair of 580's, I used a light coat of permatex on the timing cover and rear main cap added front and rear seals and let it set over night, next day added the pan rail sides sealed all 4 corners and snugged it up and hope for the best.

Like said, I tried to use the one piece from a local store on a Mark IV one time and couldn't get the pan on. Had to have been a mistake so I ordered another on-line. Same issue. RTV and the four piece from that point on.
