Have you followed the return line from the regulator and verified it dumps back into the tank and isn't clogged?

the line off the regulator goes to the water fuel separator, unclogged.

43psi it opens and get more flow as I increase the psi after that, when I apply vacuum it opens at around 36 psi.

Okay, well.....your issue can only be at the regulator or after it. keep digging.

So after re-installing the fuel cooler appears to have 35,37 psi idle 😎. Happy waiting to take it for a ride this weekend will post results.

I have the same engines. Mine (oddly both) were bogging/Missing above 4000 rpms. Noticeable loss in power and sounded like the engines were grunting over 4500 but with no additional power.

I had 2 issues over a period of time. Both similar to what you are seeing.

1. Vacuum lines were hard and leaking. they are supposed to pull vacuum on the fuel regulator to restrict the bypass on the fuel rail to supply the extra fuel needed at higher RPMS.

2. This lil bastard caused me grief for 4 years!! Loss of power above 4K. Finally had a TPS issue borrowed a scanner and found knock sensors on both engines. It was locking the timing above 4K to protect the engines. Had to replace 1 sensor and clear them. Runs like champ! Get a programmer to rule it out! Looks like you may have used the lil merc flashing reader, but I would rather see it on the read out.

Gonna try and find a programmer / reader around me , anyone have any luck with the eBay ones?

the factory flame arrestors for those motors actually works better than the aftermarket ones too....

kip4234 05-15-2019 08:42 AM

I agree on the factory arrestor unless you pull cover off and it looks like this in pictures. a lot of these look like this and are very choked down on the inside with crap adapters to make them fit, The factory Vortech is a really nice piece though but it does look like your filter element has seen its better day.

nothing should be covering any part of your throttle blades

Sean400 05-16-2019 06:56 AM

Question on this engine where could I put a fuel pressure sender for a fuel pressure gauge ?

kip4234 05-16-2019 01:28 PM

you should have a Schrader valve on the fuel rail by the regulator you can screw onto that and have a gauge or see my pics my fuel rail is modded and I have a aeromotive regulator on the red anodized bracket behind intake with a liquid filled gauge, I feed the rail then the return goes out to regulator and then pressure is set there and I return excess fuel to fuel filler neck.

You seem to know about these MPIs,
Does GM have a replacement for the fuel regulator on the end of the fuel rail like some of the other sensors on the 7.4 LX MPI??
Thanks

not sure if they make a replacement for it, I just searched around found the part number and scanned a bunch of sites to find the best price.
