Bilge Pump Operation
 

I have a small lower mounted bilge pump float switch in the bilge, when I turn the knob I can tell that the float is spring loaded in the up position. You turn the bilge pump on, the bilge pump works, turn it off it shuts off. So I went to test the high water bilge float switch, turned the knob and noticed the float was relax down, turned knob so the float went up, bilge pump did not turn on. I'm assuming the bilge pump should have turned on or an alarm or both should have happened is this correct?

If the float switch did not float when it was supposed to, and then the bulge pump did not turn on when you manually operated the float switch, I’d say you have a bum float switch. I could be understanding your explanation incorrectly though.

I think you are probably right. But I ll have to look @ a wiring diagram.

If it's a mercury float switch I've seen the contacts in the glass get coated with something from all the cycling/arcing as well and not make a contact. Like I always say , it's nice having an auto bilge pump , just never trust them 100%

Check voltage going into float switch. Check voltage of switch output to bilge pump with switch operated or in float position. Voltage in, no voltage out when switch is operated, then switch no worky.
