all Merc 555 that are not DIS has an HVS. The HVS is not a distributor and when reinstalling any HVS --- it has to be properly phased for the install. The same goes for Volvo and indmar and so on and all of the marine sided engines that have that set up --- call it a HVS. Again Marine side..

The HVS only sends the spark to the correct cyc as the ECM controls all that, TIMING is not adjustable on any HVS ignition set up as the ECM controls all timing events 100 percent. .

Do you have a service manual, They are strongly recommended if one works on boats. Just saying,

You can find posts of mine up here explaining the phasing portion and also the HVS cap and rotor are important - A new HVS CAP and rotor is recommended almost every 2 to 3 years MAX for marine apps.

The HVS (high voltage switch) in this discussion is a distributor. Semantics , I know...but....

Anyhow, I agree with everything else BUP mentioned 100%. And that's why I brought it up earlier...many don't know there is an exact way toinstall and thus install it incorrectly.

Problem SOLVED !

When (re)analysing the diacom values spark advance 22° at idle is way too much...
Meaning ignition should be the cause and not vacuum leaks etc etc
I re installed the distributor as described in mercruiser manual 31
an now it idles as it should be !

Thx to all for the reactions and help !
