Default Donzi Blackhawk engine ID help

My 1996 BH has an engine serial number 0K021055, which does line up with a 1996 engine. I noticed there are MEFI1, MEFI2, etc...how do I know which one I have? I don't see any indication on the tag. I'm trying to determine if my boat is getting WOT (at TPS). This boat is supposed to run in the 80s, but runs only 55...checked codes but need to dig deeper.....thank you

What rpm are you seeing at 55? You are trimming the drive up correct? Buddy has a Blackhawk. 502 mag and it’s just into the 80s.

4800 rpm is the max rpm... was around 50mph. Speed does vary a little with trim, maybe a few mph.

Thank you for the confirmation this boat ought to be around 80ish!

Sent this thread to buddy with the Blackhawk 22. Hopefully he will chime in with prop and rpm numbers to help out

The Black Hawk takes a long time to learn how to drive. Is there a BH in your HIN? Is It truly a black hawk? Black hawk drive? Does it have the factory trim tabs that came with the boat?

if you’re getting 4800, then that’s about right.4800-5000is the range, But you should be seeing way more than 55 at that rpm. What props are on it? 27, 29, or 31 pitch? I’n order to get it all out of the boat, you need to have tabs up all the way, trim full out on the throttle, and I’m pretty sure the 80 mph is only going to be possible with the 31 pitch props with everything else in order. On the trailer hit the trim out on the throttle and make sure it’s 21-3/4” from pin to pin on the trim cylinders. My trim limit switch was adjusted wrong only getting 20” therefore leaving lift=speed on the boat. But I was already high 70s before I found that. Once that’s correct, adjust your sender. Mine reads 1/4 up now at full trim (not trailer).

I had to take everything I knew about driving a boat and throw it out the window with this thing. It reacts so different than any boat I ever owned. So here’s how I achieve top speed. While cruising my tabs are usually down a lot to keep it from proposing. The boat naturally wants to get up and on the back so it’s a fight. But I’ll hammer the throttle at cruise speed (2500-2800) with the tabs still down, then start trimming out until you feel the hull come up and out of the water. Then I raise tabs all the way and finish trimming full out. There’s no mistaking when your boat is up out of the water. It’s a crazy cool feeling. It gets smooth and light while dancing on the back. It took me the better part of a summer to figure just that part out. I was discouraged also saying to myself, this things a dog because I was only getting 55 mph out of it just like you.

Hopefully this is somewhat helpful. Let me know if I can answer anything else. I’d love to see you get there!

Awesome write up..thank you. I’m feeling I’m not at that point yet and the power is being limited, but we will heed your advise and try it this weekend and report back!

The boat is a true black hawk, graphics, the outdrive, the interior etc. I will verify the VIN though.

Just be patient with getting there. If everything with the boat is in proper working condition, it shouldn’t have an issue getting 75 with a passenger and cooler.

If if it starts proposing, get out of it and start over. I was making the mistake of raising the tabs first (like a typical boat) and then start getting into the throttle. But that doesn’t work. Trim up first until she pops out! Then tabs up. I have a little video I’ll try to post if I can find it.

Good luck man!

What number Hawk is it?
