Redline Oil

I here this is a pretty awesome oil! How much does it cost? and where can I find the best deal? I have heard alot of different variations.

Changing the oil evry 25 hours is $$$

28Eliminator 11-02-2002 08:49 AM

Just run it dry and let the sparks fly!:D ;) :D ;)

dowhat, alot of the members here use the Redline oil, as I do. If you are using the standard Merc stuff you will really notice a difference in shifting in and out of gear if you are talking about drive oil. It is alot smoother.

Here is a place to by from. www.myoilshop.com
I don't know how the price compares, but I paid $ 28.39 for 3 quarts. That includes shipping. If you search the web you may be able to get it cheaper.
I know that AMSOIL is supposed to be very good oil also, and alot of people use mobile1 because Walmart carries it and it is easy to get. The peolpe who have boats on warranty use the Merc stuf for obvious reasons. Good luck!

28 Elim:

Thanks for the info.. that is a very interesting site..

I have a buddy with a 28 Daytona, and he kicks everyones ass!!

Wally 11-04-2002 10:51 AM

they all charge the smae more or less....its about $8/quart
The only deal i have found was from www.racerwholesale.com and they give 10% off if you buy a case of it at a time

stevel 11-04-2002 12:09 PM

Good Stuff - About $8 per quart.

Do an oil analysis kit for about $20.

You may find that 25 hours is excessive. I leave mine in for a season or 50-75 hours.

I change the oil in my truck about once a year. (5000 miles per year)

Changing more often will never hurt - but you may be wasting $$$.

Most dealers will take 10% off if you order a case.

Steve,
Do you use the stuff in your drives? If so, does it shift as smoothly as some others indicate? Do you know a dealer in our area.

Rick

Wally 11-04-2002 01:37 PM

rv, theres a shop in your neck of the wood over in Lake Zurich called TAD motorsports. I dont have the number on me but 411 can help you out i'm sure...Its a cool place too! They build ralley cars from scratch there!!! ever see a 4wd turbo ricer with 400hp and running 6lbs of boost at idle!!! Thats about the only ricer that i would ever even think about wanting to drive!!! :D :D

They are off rt22 west or Quentin rd a little......you turn north right at the school football field that on the south side of rt22 at the intersection there. :D

stevel 11-04-2002 01:51 PM

No, I don't have it in my drives. I already had enough Merc fluid to change 2.5 out of the three drives this year. I will change next fall if I keep hearing good things. (I have not heard any bad things)

Which redline do you use in drives? Light weight shockproof?

stevel 11-04-2002 02:24 PM

I have been told to use the shockproof heavy

Wally 11-04-2002 03:47 PM

I use the shockproof heavy in my TRS drives......made a noticable difference to me! :)

rv 11-04-2002 03:49 PM

Wally,
Thanks for the tip. I think I know which street you are referring to. Maybe I will swing by there on the way home and check them out. If I remember there is an industrial office strip back there. Are they in a building right off of that street or a side street off of that.

Worse comes to worse I will pick up a phone.
Rick

Wally 11-05-2002 09:00 AM

Rick if you think you know which street it is then when you head north on that street it will be just past the municipal building where they fix all the cop cars and public works trucks on the left hand side.....they are the first shop in a group of buildings and the whole area back there is industrial...they usually have a fea ralley cars sitting around outside in the parking lot waiting to be modded up! :D

rv 11-05-2002 10:01 AM

Wally,
I think I know exactly were you are talking. On the way home last night I cut throught that area but did not see a sign for TAD Motorsports. However, from your explaination I do remember seeing that building and a bunch of rice cars on the side.

I will stop by tonight.

Thanks again,
Rick

Wally 11-05-2002 11:30 AM

there is no sign there....they have two big shop doors there(maybe 14' tall) and the main window display has all the ricer goodies there. The tipical performance stikers on the front door but you wont see it all till you pull in the small parking lot. :)

28Eliminator 11-07-2002 08:21 AM

shockproof heavy, but it pours like 40w motor oil. I think most of the synthetics do also. I don't think you will have to change drive oil as aften, but it never hurts.

rv 11-07-2002 10:08 AM

Wally,
FYI, I stopped by TAD's last night. They do not care Redline any more. They are basically into the building/modification instead of parts/inventory.

Thanks for the lead anyway. I guess there is a guy in McHenry area. It is not like I need it today anyway.

Rick

stevel 11-07-2002 10:51 AM

This is the place in Mchenry. They give discounts if you buy case(s).

Lybarger Racing Ent · McHenry, IL · 815-363-8560

Steve

Wally 11-07-2002 01:03 PM

rv, sorry to steer ya wrong....i havnt been to that place in a while...i just order the case from racer wholesale now a days...

Steve, where is Lybarger located?

stevel 11-07-2002 01:22 PM

I have been there a few times but I am not too familiar with the area. This is the address:

4424 W Hi Point Rd, Mchenry, IL 60050

Give them a call for directions.

WALLY, WHAT KIND OF DIFFERENCE DID IT MAKE?

Wally 11-07-2002 02:36 PM

well, heres what i noticed after switching from the merc hi=po stuff to redline:

Less white chaulky stuff on drive=less heat generated and vaproising water
the drives shift easier into gear....no more big clunks!
when changing oil there is just a small dusting of metal on the drainplug magnet as before it looked like metal fragments were standing on end due to static!!
and it doesnt smell burnt when i change it!

I only changed the drive oil once a season and it was always as pink as when i put it in!

Luv-N-It 11-07-2002 02:41 PM

WALLY,
THANKS FOR THE REPLY. i THINK I'LL TRY THIS STUFF NEXT YEAR IN MY BRAVO I, AND SEE WHAT "DIFFERENCE" IT HAS ON MY OUTDRIVE.

MIKE
