CMI headers and Sealant
Is it a no no to use sealant on the flange between header and tailpipe?? If its acceptable, RTV Red??
Thanks... new to the forum but have been stalking for a while!!! |
You can try to let it set before running. That's the only thing stellings uses. |
rope seal or compression thin gasket ??

Compression Thin gasket. V-clamp and T Bolt
|
Ive never used it on the v clamp
|
Re-assembing and 1 flange marries up perfect and 1 is a little off. T bolt was a bit rusty on that side so Im assuming it leaked alittle. Prior owner definitely used something on it from the looks of the gasket. Whats lesser of 2 evils, doubling gasket or Hi Temp red??

the tails have to be aligned perfectly inorder not to have a leak......Id use sealant and not 2 gaskests
|
Thanks Speedy

One thing might be going on if this is twin engine they could have two pipes or two headers switched. |

I make sure the flanges are nice and clean. So far so good. Using a sealant makes them a mother to get cleaned. Also, loosen up your clamps/break the hoses free at the tips so that it's easier to adjust the alignment of the surfaces. the v-clamp will align the pipe and the gasket for you. |
