Sounds like you’ve got the ignition to spec. Someone else here was having issues getting it to run out with (I think) .060 gap. Dropped it down to 40ish and got it all back. That may be worth a try, and I’m curious as I’m running the same ignition with the recommended .055 gap. Please be the test mule so I don’t have to, lol. Do you have stock exhaust tips with any baffle? My stock Corsas KILLED my top end. |
Sounds like a combo of a couple things. Not sure on that exhaust but it’s likely limiting you. I think the plug is too big also. Blowing out the spark. I’m running 320 heads on 502s. I’d start with plug gap and see what that gives you. |
Id bet its starving for fuel.
Which holley pump? 325cc heads are the same size ports a 365hp 454 mag had. Its not the heads holding it back. |
Curious, did you degree the cam in, if so to what
|
Baja, I have !" spacers between the heads and exhaust manifolds, because without them, the exhaust curves in, and hit the valve covers, which in turn, I had to make a special socket to get at the plugs. It changed the access angle enough the make that simple task big ones. But, after I check the fuel pressure as the other guys suggested, I will do the boat yoga, and pull the plugs,,,
I appreciate the suggestions guys, I spent alot of time and money to go slower. |
I agree on the spark plug gap.
Personally, I don't care what DUI says. Even if it could fire that large gap, the cap/rotor/and wires will be taxed tremendously. I recommend No more than .040" on the gap. No less than .035" . No reason to reinvent the wheel here. |
Fuel psi alone isnt the end all. Ive rebuilt carbs that have had crap stuck in the needle and seats, and showed good fuel pressure on the gauge.

I had issues last year where my secondary had stuff in it and wouldn't let me spin one engine. (fell on face at 4200) Went through all of the Ignition, plugs and stuff. Funny thing is the AFR was reading good even at WOT, so I never payed much attention to fuel.

I have a very similar build on a 540 and swing a labbed 28 four blade at 5400. I would try another carb, if you have a spare or go through the back half of the one that’s on it. Have you measured the ram length when your trim reaches limit? |
