Oil Pan for 632
I have an oil pan on my 632 that is leaking. Tried to weld it, but thinking the metal has fatigued. My builder wants to fabricate one (with oil pan builder) at a cost of $1650/Pan. I’m struggling with that cost. Does anyone know of a replacement pan? Preferably off the shelf, but built to work with my large stroke. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks |
Whats on it now ? what block is it, aluminum or steel

Merlin block. Carbon steel pan. No name, no stamps. Could have been made one off. |
Is it standard pan rail or drc? I have a nice aluminum pan for the drc.

Have to admit, I’m not familiar with what drc is. I have pictures of it before I reinstalled it. |

Measure the center distance between the bolt holes side to side and I'll compare to the pan I have. I know i have a pic someplace

It’s not drc. It’s standard. I asked my builder. Thanks |

One issue has been the 4.750” stroke. I believe the drc has a wider flange surface? I’m not familiar with the term.

Last 632 I built was dry sump . Used a Jeff Johnston Pan , I think Canton makes a pan for your build. Call them they have several.

I know this is an old post.
But if the pan is reasonably solid with no rot, you have 2 good options.. I'm assuming you DO know where the leak is? 1) Believe it or not, an internal patch with JB Weld is a permanent fix if the area is cleaned and prepped properly. 2) Aircraft fuel tank sealant is the bomb diggity. Especially good if you can't pinpoint the leak location. This stuff is FAA approved, fuel and oil "proof" and flexible. We built a custom pan for a 572 in a 2nd gen Camaro. Had a kickout sump. Had a thru-hole to access the factory filter location from below. It pressure tested just fine at 15psi with lacquer thinner. Ten minutes on the car with 200 degree Brad Penn oil slinging around, and here come the leaks. 2 of them. We pulled the pan and cleaned it best we could and rewelded it. Leaked. I guess the weld temp crystallized some of the steel in areas hard to access and it microcracked. Thought about making another out of aluminum, but I had some fuel tank sealant. Tried it. No leaks - 8 years ago. Old school Glyptol/Glyptex might also work good. |
BringIng up the dead on an old post. I’m a welder by trade, engineer by education. I welded it, PT’d it and looked good. Reinstalled and it leaked its a$$ offf. Actually got worse. Just bought some new one offs from Doudley Oil Pans. Best $3000 I’ve ever spent. Tired of fighting leaks. I’d come back to boat after 5 days and find 14 qts of oil in bilige.

ARE built it for me years ago. https://www.drysump.com/index.php/te...ver-all-others A good pan will do more for consistent pressure and controlling oil temp than just about anything else. |
