Bravo-1 and X drive part numbers.

I had unusual failure on a new 13mounth old bravo-1 drive in that the lower top gears tooth broke off. This is behind a 2002 496/425 which is 100% STOCK. Gear oil full and no indication of water mixed in. Drive has about 40hrs run time. The drive part number 5231200TP. Will need to see if Mercury will warranty. I'm thinking of upgrading to the "X" drive and would like to know if this is the correct part number wit 1.50 gears. 5237200TP

There are a lot of part numbers for that drive. Yes 5237200TP is one of them.

Merc had a lot of broken regular Bravos behind the 496/425hp and pretty sure that they made the Bravo1 X standard after the first few years.

That being said, the regular Bravo1 and Bravo1 X use the same lower

I'm finding that out... friend has the same boat and power but is one year newer than my 2002 and he has the "X" drive.
Not sure of my options yet such as replace drive over winter or have this built with "X" gears or part out?

The only difference between the std bravo and the x is the steel tower in the case and the larger input shaft and bearings for the pinion gear ....the gears (other than the pinion having a larger opening for the input shaft ) are the same

And adding info --- ribbed top cap and the price is a lot more for the X

the hp rating is different as well

Standard bravo up to 400 hp

the X up to 450 hp

he has a 425 hp - 496 HO MAG so for warranty the standard bravo is a NO GO -

If you are buying a new drive, you might want to go to the XR and be done with it.
