1075 to custom power

I'm looking at a boat that was originally rigged with merc 1075's (now pulled), if I buy it, I want to install my 1000 hp Eickerts. So my question is, what all would I need to change with the harnesses? Would I need to only change the engine side of the harness, or would I need to rewire the boat from the engine to the gauges?

sutphen 30 10-23-2019 07:16 PM

does the boat side have a mil spec plug?ones I've seen do,,so you'd need at least the engine side harness and go from there.

GPM 10-23-2019 07:50 PM

Pretty vague question, does the engine harness come with the boat, is it carb or EFI,

endeavour32 10-23-2019 08:42 PM

Here is what I’m after-

i believe my 525 EFI engines send all the data via Smartcraft signals up to a digital to analog box, then that data goes to the Livorsi gauges.

I would expect the 1075 to work the same way, when I asked the owner of the boat he said the Smartcraft data only goes to the smartcraft display. The Livorsi gauges get there data straight from the engine sensors. This makes no sense that it would be wired like that.

So there has to be a standard way the 1075 engines are wired. The Eickert engines I will use, will be updated to the latest efi whipple setup. I have no clue what computer I will use to run the efi, but that shouldn’t matter.

What i want to know, is will I have to rewire the entire boat because I’m not going to run smartcraft! My current engine have the 9 pin harness. The boat has whatever they used for the 1075 in 2010.

2010 will have the 14 pin military style twist lock connectors. Analog gauges are getting there signal from a box that is plugged into the smartcraft. You will have to run new 10 pin harnesses in the boat.
1075’s use multi pin 5v reference sensors that report to the ecm.

Thanks, I thought it was going to be more work than just changing out the engine harness.

KWright 10-24-2019 12:40 PM

Mercury makes an adapter to go from 9 to 14 pin. Your gauges sould be analog, up under your dash you should find the box that converts it from digital back to anolg.
shouldn't be that big of deal

Unlimited jd 10-24-2019 05:28 PM

I think they only have 9/10 pin boat side to 14 pin engine. I have a couple of those and couldn’t find a part number for the other way.

Ok since we seem to have a couple people on this thread who know what they’re talking about, I will ask here. I am going to convert from my old (circa 2008) Smartcraft screen to a new Simrad Go9. What am I going to need parts wise to make this happen and what am I getting into wiring wise?

jeff32 10-25-2019 12:27 PM

i see an str race car in the shop! right? drove those a couple times!

I did the conversion and it's pretty straight forward. Take a look and get a visual of what you want to do in your boat. Are you connecting a NMEA2000 stereo, remotes, displays for passengers in the future? Laying out the NMEA 2000 network backbone so you can add in the future is a good tip to get started. I went from the helm around the cockpit to the co-pilot dash with a break in the engine compartment. That way I can just "T" into the backbone quickly and effortlessly. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...c0fbd0dc32.jpg

Seems pretty straight forward. I think the only thing that wont read through this setup is the Livorsi fuel gauge/sender. I’m going to look into what it will take to make that work.

maretron tla100 adapter will put the tank level on the nmea network. I have the gateway to program the description in the coding.

Nice!!

So I need to power the backbone and the Simrad unit?

302Sport 11-13-2019 08:58 PM

Also the two connectors that went into the SC5000 display (square shape) don’t fit any of the connectors on the new vessel view link kit I got???

Back to the OP. This seems like what you want or need

do you have the harness labeled as C in post 11

No it didnt come in the kit. Looks like i need to buy that??

Blueabyss 11-14-2019 07:47 AM

Did your kit come with a row of T's. That plus the end cap resistor and that part labeled C is Called the NMEA 2000 Backbone. What do those Square plugs you left in go to? Looks Like Smartcraft stuff. I Know they make a box that will convert that to NMEA 2000.

Chris

Blueabyss 11-14-2019 08:15 AM

I know the Square plugs go into the unit you removed but where do they go from there?

Chris

Whats labeled C in the kit is simply the 12V power cord into the NMEA network. Those plugs are smartcraft stuff??! I thought the point of this whole kit was to get the smartcraft stuff onto the NMEA network???

Blueabyss 11-14-2019 12:04 PM

List the Kit you Bought.

Blueabyss 11-16-2019 01:55 PM

Ya that is just for the Gateway.. lol for a 1000 bucks you would think it came with a NMEA backbone. Anyway this should complete your setup.

Chris

302Sport 11-16-2019 05:12 PM

Lol ok I’ll order that too!! If I order enough stuff eventually it will work right??? Lol

Blueabyss 11-16-2019 05:29 PM

Yes it will. How many Simrad screens are you running? Anything else going to need NMEA 2000 connectivity.. Like fusion radio or anything else?

Chris

302Sport 11-18-2019 08:35 AM

2 simrad screens, one for Nav and one for gauges/smartcraft. Only other thing hooked in will likely be stereo and fuel level.

Got the first Simrad unit installed and hooked onto the NMEA/Smartcraft backbone, but it does not give me the 1075 option when selecting what type of engines I have. I’m sure it is just a matter of downloading something, but anyways just waiting on Outerlimits to send me back a new blank carbon dash and I’m going to put a 12” Simrad on the other side.

Could I get you to start a new thread? When I started this thread, I subscribed to this so I would be notified when my questions were answered. Now I’m constantly getting emails on things I don’t care about.
