GPM 11-05-2019 05:11 PM

What are your plans for the boat, how are you going to run it, towing skiers, cruising or a lot of wot ? what exhaust , what intake, carb or efi ?

phragle 11-05-2019 05:15 PM

Custom Bob Straub 7/8 race grind with the even/odd cylinder swap with 3.14159265359 degree advance.

Not sure the difference between solid flat tappet and what you're going to run but a Bullet 246 /254 made 540 HP 520 torque in a 468 at 6200. The 496 stroker would probably make more and top out at 5800.

GPM 11-05-2019 07:28 PM

I'm sure Bullet could make you a nice cam, techs seem to be decent.

Baja Rooster 11-05-2019 08:39 PM

22 post and no Bob M reference? Slackin’!

I’d look at the Airgap dual plane intake. It seems to outperform any single plane until you get over about 555cu plus.

Fellow boater has that same cam in a Coretti 525hp 496 in his formula. Bullet specd the same duration for another Formula on our home lake with 496's. Seems like a popular choice for mild builds, needs more lift in my opinion though.

And here’s an article giving the history of the 3/4 race cam... for anyone interested:

https://www.enginelabs.com/engine-te...race-camshaft/

phragle 11-08-2019 11:28 AM

If your worried about reversion with a 3/4 race cam, use an RV cam...

thirdchildhood 11-08-2019 12:37 PM

My 1982 Mustang GT was advertised by Ford as having a marine grind cam and made a whopping 157 hp. Now it makes about 450, lol.
