3D printed motors...only a matter of time....
They can make connecting rods on a 3d printer from a composite carbon that can withstand 3000hp now!!! only a matter of time before the complete block will be done like this and only have liners installed for the pistons! interesting stuff.

I’ve had to go in and remachine some details on parts made from inconel that were printed within last couple of yrs. 1st time I saw a 3D printed part was over 25 yrs ago. I believe that material was some type of glass/plastic. So so far every part I’ve p seen have had a rough sand cast texture and dimensions are somewhat close. Don’t know if that’s all that’s possible at this point or just a different level of precision. Boggles the mind of technology anymore |
Yep....i went to the IMTS show at McCormick last year. The 3D printing they had going on was mind boggling. There was one machine that made finished parts....they made the parts with a metal deposition printer then had a 5 axis cnc built in with it to make the final part! Crazy stuff. :)
