head gasket advice
I installed the Fel Pro 17030 perma torque head gaskets on my small block chevy. I of course did not follow the instructions that say to torque the head and then wait 10 minutes and then loosen each head bolt and then re-torque theme at a time in sequence.
I am running edelbrock aluminum heads and arp head studs The engine probably has about 15 minutes of run time on it, but has been assembled for a good 6 months or so. As I see it, my options are 1: replace the head gaskets with new ones and follow the instructions 2: go back now and complete the install procedure by loosening and re-torueing each head stud one at a time in sequence 3: send it What do you guys suggest? Thanks, Russ |
i never retorque them and never had a problem.through the years i have installed hundreds of them with 0 issues.

Same here, but I do use the ARP Ultra Torque Assembly Lube

You can do what you think is better.
But, like you mentioned option #3, I make like Larry Enticer on felpro permatorque head gaskets. |

excellent, thanks for the responses. That's a consensus where I come from.
I used the arp ultra torque assembly lube as directed as well. I am going to send it. Russ |
Torque the head bolts from the center to the outside in a 3 step sequence, I take them all to 40 then to 60 then to the finish spec around 70-75lbs depending on application

#2 and send it!
