Trim Tabs Alternative use?
Merry Christmas Everyone!
I have hav my share of "V" bottoms. And now have a cat. HTM SR-24. Driven by an ILMOR MV-10 625. Its like my very first boat or starting all over. I don't need tabs to get out of the water, more to help me stay in the water. Or a little anti-flip INC. At higher speeds the boat is made to lift out of the water. However this boat wants to take off. If it had wings it would fly. Last year I blew the lower to pcs. Sent the boat to a marina in MI, whom sent drive to George at ADS. Boats done ready for spring. We even added a drive guardian. So........My idea or though is that if I added some tabs, it would increase the overall length of the boat. Possible helping the boat to stay down a little even with tabs in a straight portion. Or help it to not want or feel like its going to flip over. I don't think running them down any is a good idea, but just wanted to see if anyone had any input into this matter. How big or long? Elec. or Hyd.? Save the $ for gas? |
My first thought would be to consider using a prop with less lift. A prop with less blade area may also be more forgiving on your lower unit. Talk to BBlades and or other respected prop shops. Better yet find out whether other HTM owners are using.

A buddy is using a 33" Bravo 1 FS prop on a blown HTM SS-24, IMCO drive. Stable to 115+, we haven't pushed it hard yet. Boat has no tabs - don't trim the drive much if any beyond level with the bottom of the boat.

I have a Bravo 1 FS on there now. I will have to look at it again to see the pitch.
I may Just try to loose a little top end but be quicker. You wouldn't know what pitch or Hp he has would you? Thanks for the info everone! |
As stated above, it is a 33" pitch FS. Gear ratio is 1.5/1
HP is around 750 to 800 I would guess. The hull is an SS, lower profile and lighter than your SR. |
Thanks for the info, I guess a new prop is less than trim tabs. So thats where to start.
Fingers crossed, my Drive should be Bullet proof at this point. |
