Gen vi oil temp sender location
GEN VI OIL TEMP SENDER LOCATION, 2012 block, I know the pan is the best option but not in the cards. Where is the best location for the TEMP sensor, I want pre cooler temp.
There are 2 locations next to the filter boss but I am not sure as which is pre filter. I am running a HP 500 remote filter/temp thermostat housing. Any insight will be welcome. Thank you. |
The best place is after the cooler before the oil is delivered to your bearings. One of the ports on the side of the block should be able to accomplish this. If not the oil filter housing might accomplish this. The best would be before and after the cooler and toggle between 2 senders with a switch.

I recommend tracing your lines. On my boat there is a line coming out of the engine that leads to the oil filter and then from the filter to the cooler. I put my temp sensor in the line coming from the engine as that will be the hottest reading.

Let me clarify, Which threaded (and currently pugged) opening above the filter boss is PRE FILTER, the forward or aft hole Thank you.

Thank you IGetWet, that looks to make sense. Seems we are still guessing, anybody know for certain? Reassurance is always comforting.

Forgot to point out to scroll down a little over 1/2 way down in the link I posted. That’s where the sensor is in my 525 and the temp is around 170-190F.

That temp range seems more like after cooler temps? I am interested in pre cooler temps. Any ideas?
