Intercooler placement

I am doing a blow thru twin turbo system on my Scarab 300 this time. I am going to use the Holley Sniper throttle body system because it has pretty good support. I want to use this type of intercooler

but not sure where to mount it. This is similar to my engine compartment layout

. The battery is almost directly in front of the engine and the trim pumps are located outboard of the battery. I have thought about mounting it above the thermostat housing, but concerned about how to mount it.

For plumbing, I am using a merc transom mount water pickup to feed water to the intercooler. How have others that have used a intercooler mounted it and how to you feed water to it?

I fed the intercooler water from a T on the water inlet of the oil cooler which was fed by a stock merc seawater pump picking up from the drive...

This was a Procharger intercooler..

My NEXT one would've been from Frozen Boost But I sold the boat (put it back stock)

I think you are going to have to mount the inter- coolers a little further away than the thermostat housing to keep from having a lot of sharp bends , I was having the same problems so I ended up making my own inter- coolers , just make sure your inter-coolers are big enough so you don't have a restriction . I have a 2 stage water pump that I use to feed the engine and inter-cooler

I mounted my inter-coolers on top of my carburetors

Do you have any better pictures of the intercoolers? What cores did you use?

green lightning 03-13-2020 09:25 AM

I got the cores from bell intercoolers

If you have the height, green lightning has the right idea. I have seen that Vortech lid with inlets on both sides so your twin turbo plumbing could be very short and straight. Elbows are bad...

That's great work. I just noticed the CAD drawing on the bench; your 6" measurement was obviously accurate!
