Difference in engine builders bore stroke combos
Whats the advantage or reason engine builders swear by their bore and stroke combos in high performancr big blocks
mercury 1350 run 557c.i sterling runs 557 cheif runs 572 teague runs 565 some others run 588, 598 etc whats the differance running blowers in hp range from 1100 to 1500hp bore and stroke engines |
Its really all just preference really.
Adding stroke adds torque and pulls the powerband down. Adding cubic inch can allow you to make more power on pump gas with a blower. Putting a 4.500" stroke in a STD Deck block is possible but it kills BDC stability and just makes a real pile of **** combination. Some builders probably prefer to use short strokes and turn 6,200 vs longer strokes turning 5,200. You can make the power you ask out of a bunch of engine combinations. |

So you’re talking 4.47-4.56ish. For strokes, in a 9.8” deck block, everyone is fine with 4.25” stroke. Some debate whether 4.375” significantly reduces bore life. So in a 9.8 block, 4.5x4.25 gives you 540, 4.57x4.25 gets you 557. In 10.2” deck height block you could go up to 4.5” stroke. 4.5x4.5=572. 4.56x4.5=588 More aggressive stroke in a 10.2 is a 4.75” |
Dart block
Yes would be a dart block. Since i will be running a hoodscoop probably should go with a tall deck 10.2 . Also a 1471 roots blower. Boat would be used for poker runs and occasional trips to sand bar. What you thinking?

4.560" Bore x 4.500" Stroke - 589ci 10.200 Deck 6.660 rod .100 in the hole 8:1 CR 4.560" Bore x 4.375" Stroke - 572ci 10.200 Deck 6.700 rod .100 in the hole 8:1 CR |
Whats your reasoning
Have shiroff racing shooting me ther numbers 36k for a 588 with 1471 1050hp on pump gas
Hp numbers seem low for that combo what you think. Why would you go with 572 589? |
The 565s always seem to make good hp and have a decent life span.

If it were me, I’d do a 10.2 588 around 7.5 to 1 with a non intercooled whipple 510 and a mild cam with around .600 or less lift. I think that would get you to 1200 around 8 psi. Should be relatively reliable and low maintenance. |
