I was bumping it over to look at my balancer to check the timing while just turning it over. After 1 rotation all hell broke loose. The engine fired right up, I jumped out of my skin! Fireballs pouring out of the heads. All frazzled I didn't have a clue how to shut it down. After a few seconds I regained my composure and turned off the ignition switch. I cussed and swore for a bit while taking the event in. I didn't have the headers on, no O2 sensors hooked up, no map and no plugs in the throttle body.

After I had everything hooked up properly I tried to fire it up again. It needed a lot of throttle to get it to run and would not idle on its own. It was throwing a ton of fuel at it and the shop was full of smoke and unburned fuel. While at home tonight I looked at the fuel map and it's extremely rich. I compared it to other base tunes and they were nowhere near the same. I wrote another tune off of those fuel numbers and will go try it again tomorrow.

In auto shop class in 11th grade we had a 6V-71 detroit diesel donated to us. The second year students built a run stand for it. The instructor had them put this huge throttle return spring on it, like you needed two hands to pull it huge. So they were fuking around cranking it over and it fired off (no manifolds on it). They had that thottle arm on backwards so it was fueled wide open if I remember right. when it took off, it went to the moon. Sounded like a tractor puller at fair ground. There were people that ran FROM it and people that ran TOWARDS it, after 20 seconds or so they covered air inlet to supercharger.

Trying to decide on oil filter mount. Never use a mount off of the back of the head, but it looks like a cluttered mess mounted on my header. Don't know much of a mess oil change will become. If I mount it on the back of the head I will have to relocate my oil coolers, probably to my New Stringers. That does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I would only mount on the rear if there was a transmission being used, otherwise as forward for access
Mount under the exhaust maybe or above the PS pump

I like where my HP500EFI oil filter is, easy to get to, punch a hole in the top and it drains out, IF I do spill some at least i can clean it up, on the back of the motor no way.

I like that. I can cut and weld the bracket for that side of the head.

Back of the head is a bad location.....had that on the 32' and it was impossible to change the filter without spilling a little oil. Hated it!
