I am looking at purchasing a cigarette 28 that my uncle sold 2 years ago back from the current owner, allegedly the boat was never put in the water while the current owner had it and from what I understand both blocks are now cracked from not winterizing the boat properly... this is a VERY clean boat and has TRS drives on it that were recently serviced by Riggs marine up here in Oshkosh. I will try to get some pictures uploaded but for now I'm trying to get an idea as to what the boat is worth with the cracked engine blocks? I know the boat last sold for 27000.00. any input would be great.

A 28 cig means old boat!
could mean worth the hull trailer and drives value so...????
5k? 7 k? Depends on general condition...10k would be a lot imo

No way to put a good value on any boat that old without seeing it up close. Value depends on 90% on condition. If it was worth 27k with good running engines, then I'd say prob 15k max.

next,,the cracked blocks,
are you going to pull motors , repair or replace blocks or motors???
or going to pay a shop to do all this work???

I ended up buying it. I know this boat has been talked about on here already, it actually belonged to my uncle up until 2 years ago when it was sold to a guy in new jersey who literally bought it and parked it in the driveway where it sat for 2 years until Saturday when I arrived in NJ after a 900 mile drive from Wisconsin to bring it back home. I have confirmed that there is a problem with both engines due to water making its way into the bottom ends of the engines, I am unsure right now as to whether the heads or blocks are cracked or if the head gaskets just let go, Im assuming the worst. I will be working on getting one of the engines out this week, it being the one that the previous owner ran when he discovered the issue. He did not try running the other so when I got it the oil was clean and fine. today I ran the engine I was unsure about and discovered this engine has a leak somewhere as well.. I anticipated this. (can't say I wouldn't have been tickled pink if it would have been okay though!) now I have some work to do!

Are the frost plugs pushed out of the blocks? (If the plugs are pushed and there is water in the pan you definitely have to inspect the blocks)

BTW, Re:10 posts... a lot of people just post a succession of short posts to hit the number to get the pics up!

Good Luck with your project, always good to hear about a Cig coming back into the family/ family and getting some loving....
