Swap old transom assem for new?

I have a pre Alpha 1979 transom assembly and wonder how hard it would be to replace it with a Gen 1 transom assembly? I hear the engine bell housing needs to be changed to.

Ayuh,...... The motor mount spacing changed on the flywheel cover, 'tween the MC-1, 'n Alpha 1,.....

the old inner transom plate could still be used on the new transom assembly couldnt it????

So I would need a new flywheel cover to match the modern Alpha Gen 1 Transom assem. Anything else?
